Bangkok's city cleaning department receives 500 safety vests made from recycled material!

The city of Bangkok is about to take a significant step towards improving the safety of its cleaners. On October 28, 2025, PRO-Thailand Network ceremoniously handed over 500 reflective safety vests to Chatchart Sitthiphan, the Governor of Bangkok. These vests are specifically designed for cleaning staff and are designed to significantly improve their safety while working. The handover took place at Bangkok City Hall in the Rattanakosin Room.

But what makes these vests so special? They are made from recycled PET plastic, which is obtained from bottles that have already been consumed. To make a single vest, 11 bottles with a volume of 600 ml are required. Through a special recycling process, the plastic is melted, converted into polyester fibers, woven and finally sewn. This approach complies with the high safety standards EN-20471, which guarantee the visibility and safety of wearers while using environmentally friendly materials.

A step towards the circular economy

The PRO-Thailand Network is a voluntary network of manufacturers committed to returning packaging to the recycling process. The aim is to drastically reduce the amount of packaging waste that ends up in landfills. This network works according to the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which is becoming increasingly important in Thailand. It promotes a circular economy in which recyclable materials are not only reused but also safely returned to the production cycle.

  • Die packenden Fakten im Überblick:
  • 500 reflektierende Sicherheitswesten übergeben
  • Hergestellt aus 11 recycelten 600ml PET-Flaschen pro Weste
  • Erfüllt Sicherheitsstandards EN-20471
  • Ziel: Verbesserung der Sicherheit und Umweltverträglichkeit

This initiative is part of a larger plan by the Thai government for sustainable waste management. Thailand's regulatory framework is based on the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act and includes various laws that address responsibility for different types of waste. In 2021, the EPR Toolbox was translated into Thai to encourage broader participation in recycling efforts. Additionally, the Plastic Waste Management Action Plan has been divided into phases to achieve 100 percent plastic recycling rate by 2027.

With this donation, the PRO-Thailand Network not only marks the start of a new model for sustainable uniforms, but also sends a strong signal for the environment and the safety of employees in Bangkok. The population can look forward to further commitment from the city government and companies to creatively address the challenges in waste management and increase the quality of life in the capital.
