Loy Krathong 2025: Festival of Lights combines culture and tradition in Bangkok!
The start of the Loy Krathong Festival 2025 is approaching and the anticipation is already palpable. On November 5th, Bangkok celebrates this colorful festival that not only revives local traditions but also conveys important cultural values. As Bangkok Biz News reports, the planning of the event was officially presented at the Council of Ministers meeting on October 28, chaired by Minister of Culture Sabida Thaiseth. This year, special attention will be paid to adapting the celebrations to the mourning of Queen Sirikit, so that the activities will take place in a respectful setting.
This year's theme "Loy Krathong Thai Thai, Karawali Phra Mae Khong Phenthin" reflects the deep respect for the traditions of Thailand. The event will be held at the historic site of Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan in Bangkok and is held in collaboration with 33 organizations. The aim is to promote local activities, support cultural expressions and create sustainable sources of income.
Diverse activities and sense of responsibility
For environmental reasons, the organizers ask people to only bring one krathong per family and to avoid using bread krathongs. These measures are necessary to protect the environment and not only enjoy but also preserve the beauty of the celebrations. It is also recommended to wear Thai traditional clothing or formal, subtle colors such as white or black to honor the occasion.
A highlight of the festival will be an exhibition honoring Queen Sirikit, reinforcing the importance of the celebrations for Thai culture. Visitors can enjoy interactive Loy Krathong activities, a cultural market with traditional food and craft demonstrations. The aim of this variety of program items is to promote Loy Krathong as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage and to promote Thailand's cultural identity.
Including all provinces
The Loy Krathong Festival is celebrated in 18 provinces including Khon Kaen, Buriram, Nakhon Ratchasima and many more. Particularly highlighted are the 5 identity provinces: Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Tak, Samut Songkhram and Roi Et. These regions are known for their unique traditional celebrations, making the festival a regional and national highlight.
The organizers hope for active participation from both Thais and foreigners who want to experience the beauty and spirit of Loy Krathong together. If you want to find out more about the planned activities, visit the official website of the Ministry of Culture: www.culture.go.th.
