Bangkok celebrates Loy Krathong 2025: environmental protection and tradition combined!

This year in Bangkok, the traditional Loy Krathong Festival will be celebrated with a special focus on safety and environmental awareness. Under the motto “Loy Krathong the Thai way, safe and environmentally conscious”, the city and its partners are opening a total of 110 venues. These are spread across 36 city districts, with 77 locations in urban areas and 33 in public parks. This reports today.line.me.

The celebrations extend from November 9th to December 23rd, 2025 and are organized by the government and the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand). Interestingly, there will be a reduction in festive activities, especially in terms of music and light shows. However, traditional competitions such as boat races and krathong competitions remain an integral part of the celebrations.

Special security measures

To protect the environment and ensure safety, fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited by law. Anyone who still wants to set off fireworks must first apply for permission from the responsible authorities. There is also a ban on alcohol at the venues and monitoring is carried out by police and authorities to ensure a safe environment.

There will be two big events on November 5, 2025: “Loy Krathong at Rama 8 Bridge” and “Loy Krathong at Wat Semian Nari”. Public parks will be open until midnight so everyone can fully enjoy the festivities.

Environmentally friendly initiatives

This year, a particular focus is on environmentally friendly measures. The city government promotes the use of biodegradable krathongs and encourages citizens to create krathong celebrations close to home. As a reminder, a total of 514,590 krathongs were collected last year, of which 98.39% came from natural materials. This shows that people are willing to make environmentally conscious decisions.

Overall, the Loy Krathong Festival 2025 will not only be a celebration of traditions but also a step towards a more sustainable and safe celebration. It remains to be seen how Bangkok residents will react to these changes. However, the anticipation of the festivities cannot be overlooked, because after all, the culture thrives on shared experiences and celebrations.
