Thailand becomes a reinsurance center: Successful conference in 2025!
The Thai financial landscape has started with the Thailand Reinsurance Conference 2025 (TRC 2025) celebrated a significant event. With over 800 participants from 24 countries, the conference far exceeded the original forecast of 600 registrations. The event, which runs until November 1, 2025, impressively demonstrates how Thailand aims to position itself as a center of reinsurance in the ASEAN region.
The days were characterized by retreats and intensive discussions, which were rounded off with daily business meetings between reinsurers and five Thai insurance companies. Dr. Somporn Suethavillkul, President of the Insurance Association of Thailand, expressed his satisfaction at the great success of the conference. This is repeated every two years to promote knowledge exchange and international networks.
A strong sign in times of crisis
Dr. Benjarong Suwankiri, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Finance, opened the event and emphasized the need to maintain the stability of Thailand's reinsurance industry, especially in light of global economic uncertainties. The total reinsurance premium in Thailand was 91.5 billion baht in 2024.
What is interesting is that Thailand has faced several major natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes in the coming years. The industry is continually pursuing a risk management strategy to overcome these challenges. “The reinsurance industry acts as a mechanism of stability and supports the insurance industry in crisis situations,” was the assessment at the conference.
Growth and innovation
Another focus of the conference is on the development of parametric insurance and ESG initiatives that are intended to future-proof the industry. Thailand is well on its way to taking a leading role in the regional and global reinsurance industry, which is particularly relevant given Thailand's geopolitical importance in Southeast Asia.
Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, not only has a rich history and culture, but is also a major economic power in the region. The trends in the reinsurance sector can be seen as a reflection of the general development of the country, which has industry as well as tourism and agriculture as its main sectors. With almost 66 million inhabitants and an area of around 513,115 km², Thailand is one of the most important players in Southeast Asia.
Overall, TRC 2025 offers an excellent platform for dialogue and further development of the industry. As in the past, this conference will help Thailand continue to be recognized as a key country in the international reinsurance landscape.
