A lot is happening in the healthcare sector in Bangkok! On December 1, 2025, the Thai Ministry of Health announced big news. A comprehensive plan is being worked on with the Health Department and the FDA to advance cell and gene therapy treatments, also known as ATMPs. With the aim of making advanced therapies more accessible to the population, the next few years will be dominated by innovative approaches.
The planned treatments are promising and aim to treat genetic diseases and various types of cancer more effectively than traditional methods. These include dendritic cell vaccines to strengthen the immune system against cancer, CIK cells to treat lung and breast cancer, and CAR T cells to combat lymphoma. The clinical trials and production of these therapies are planned for 2026 to 2027. The Ministry of Health not only wants to improve treatment outcomes, but also reduce social inequalities in healthcare and give every Thai person access to the best treatments.
The path to advanced treatments
An important part of this initiative is the planned creation of a center for the production of pharmaceuticals and cell therapies in Thailand that will meet international standards. This is seen as a turning point for the Thai healthcare system, reducing dependence on imports while increasing economic value in the healthcare sector.
The project is supported by the cooperation of various institutions, including the Rajavithi Hospital, the National Cancer Institute and the Maharat Hospital for Children. This ensures that the country's best minds work together to further improve healthcare in Thailand.
