Movement for everyone: Southeast Asian conference in Bangkok inspires!
November 2025 will be all about health and exercise in Bangkok. The South-East Asia Physical Activity Conference 2025 (SEAPAC 2025) took place from November 5th to 7th at the prestigious Centara Grand Hotel. The event was organized by the Office of Health Promotion (สสส.) and the Thailand Physical Activity Knowledge Development Center (ทีแพค) of Mahidol University. Around 700 professionals from 14 ASEAN countries took part in this important event dedicated to promoting physical activity and combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
This conference highlighted the urgent need to increase physical activity among the population. The focus is on ambitious targets: every person should aim to complete 150 to 300 minutes of moderate or at least 85 minutes of intensive physical activity every week. A national target was also set to increase the number of people who are sufficiently physically active from 68% to 75%.
An action plan for the future
A highlight of the event was the presentation of 110 scientific papers as well as workshops in which new strategies to promote physical activity were presented. This relies on a holistic approach that takes active people, an active environment, an active society and an active system into account. This is intended to sustainably improve the health and quality of life of the population over the next 10 to 20 years.
Professor Mark S. Tremblay from the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance was one of the guest speakers and spoke about the role of research and academic networks in policy making. “We need to reduce inequalities in infrastructure, funding and supportive policies,” Tremblay said. The goal is clear: to create an active and equal environment in the region.
