Drastic entry controls: 1,440 foreigners arrested since October!

In the last few weeks, the situation surrounding entry into Thailand has become increasingly explosive. According to the current information from Thai PBS Around 1,440 foreigners have entered the country illegally since October 22, 2025. In a press conference on November 11th, Pol. Lt. Gen. Cheongron Rimpodee, spokesman for the immigration department, shared the details. Of particular concern are the high numbers of arrivals from India (465 people), followed by 270 from Africa, 220 from the Philippines and 187 from China.

In order to deal with the problem of illegal entries, all detainees are prepared for repatriation in accordance with the Immigration Act of 1979. On November 10th Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumat Boonyalaksm, chief of the immigration department, to Mae Sot in Tak Province to personally oversee the repatriations. Decisive action should not only be taken against illegal entry, but also against human trafficking. As part of the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), interviews are conducted with the foreign nationals to help potential victims of human trafficking and forced labor.

Biometric controls and increased security measures

To prevent impersonation, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumat to record the biometric data of all foreigners in the immigration authorities' system. Controls are now being increased at airports, especially for those returning from Myanmar. Particular attention is paid to foreigners from South Asia and East Africa, as well as to teenagers and young adults traveling alone who do not have clear travel plans. Since the beginning of the year, 3,384 foreigners have been temporarily detained at airports.
