Thai youth are in the spotlight, and for good reason! The goal is clear: young people should be made aware of the problem of electronic waste and learn how to dispose of it correctly. Loud Mitihoon A network of environmentally conscious young people and schools is promoted in order to become active together. It is important not only to create awareness, but also to find innovative solutions for the disposal of e-waste.
Participants in the project, which is aimed at students in grades 1 to 12, have the opportunity to create creative videos lasting between 1 and 2.5 minutes in teams of 1 to 3 people. Whether in the form of stories, songs, short dramas or even viral TikTok videos – the variety of presentation formats is huge. Particularly creative DIY projects for e-waste separation will be rewarded with prizes. Joint efforts for a better environment
In a similar spirit, the World Vision Foundation of Thailand is working on another significant project, supported by the Citi Foundation. The “Youth LED – TRASH2CASH” project involves young people in waste management and raises awareness of the ecological impacts of waste. According to the information from World Vision Waste is not only an environmental problem, but also contributes to global warming. The young people learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle waste, ideally through projects that they initiate themselves.
In the first year of the project, participants were taught various skills to develop innovative project proposals. Some creative ideas that emerged from this engagement include waste separation bins and waste reduction concepts. Over 85 young people from 17 schools have already worked actively on developing solutions. World Vision's Ratanathida Prawang highlights the importance of working with teachers and local organizations. Together against global challenges – that is the motto that unites both projects.
The importance of youth engagement
The need to actively get young people involved in environmental protection is also a hot topic at the international level. The report by the Federal Environment Agency addresses the fact that many young people have no interest in climate protection and sustainability. Studies show fundamental differences between engaged and disengaged youth. The challenge is to address this target group through suitable event formats and to motivate them to actively support our planet. Young people are ready to button up their sleeves, but creative approaches are needed to reach them - a valuable insight that relates to the content of Federal Environment Agency covers.
Overall, it is clear that Thai youth and their creative ideas for the environmental protection movement are becoming increasingly important. With projects like “E-Waste Influencer Junior” and “Youth LED – TRASH2CASH” they are sending a strong signal for the change that our planet urgently needs. All we can do is hope: the initiative goes into the next round!
