Something is happening in the world of payments! The Bank of Thailand recently launched an exciting new service: from October 30, 2025, QR codes can be used for cross-border payments between Thailand and China. Loud Bank of Thailand This step aims to link the instant retail payment systems of both countries. Chinese users can now also pay directly in Thailand using well-known apps such as Alipay, UnionPay and WeChat Pay.
This connection will not only boost trade but also promote investment and tourism between the two countries. There have already been 8.8 million tourist movements between Thailand and China in 2024, and this new service will certainly ensure further increases!
Cooperation at a high level
This project emerged from the collaboration of several key players, including National ITMX Co., Ltd. and three Chinese payment providers. International settlement banks such as Bangkok Bank and Krung Thai Bank are also on board. With these partners at its side, Bank of Thailand is confident that the new payment options will be both safe and cost-effective.
Initially, five Thai banks will offer the new service: Bangkok Bank, Krung Thai Bank, Kasikorn Bank, ICBC (Thailand) and Siam Commercial Bank. In the future, the list of additional banks could possibly grow, which would offer users even more flexibility.
The advantages of the QR code
QR codes are not only popular in payment transactions. They are also used in various other areas. For example, Siekens Electronics uses QR codes on product packaging to store important information such as manufacturing dates and locations. In the home improvement industry, Happy House Crew uses QR codes to help ensure repair providers always follow proper protocols.
But the use of QR codes is not limited to that. They are also used in the world of education: teachers at Glasmont Academy use QR codes in quizzes to increase the motivation of their students. The uses are diverse, and at the same time the clear, simple application attracts people.
To avoid any errors, it is important that the content stored in QR codes is accurate as they are static and cannot be changed once created. Therefore, companies that want to use QR codes should ensure that they minimize the likelihood of misuse by providing clear information.
With all these developments, Thailand not only secures a place at the forefront of innovative payment solutions with the introduction of the QR payment service, but also creates the conditions for a flourishing business between Thailand and China.
