Pioneering health cooperation: Thai-Uni and NSTDA sign MOU!

On October 21, 2025, a significant agreement was signed at the University of Business and Management (DPU) in Bangkok to strengthen cooperation between various institutions in Thailand. Dr. Wirachai Achanhan, Governor of the National Institute of Science and Technology Research (NSTDA), and Dr. Darika Lattapipat, Rector of the DPU, signed a memorandum aimed at promoting health and innovation. This partnership has the potential to bring a breath of fresh air to health research and technology development in the country.

The main goal of the agreement is close cooperation in the areas of education, research and the development of products that are intended to improve the health of the population. By sharing resources and expertise from both sides, the aim is to increase Thailand's competitiveness in the healthcare sector. Dr. Achanhan stressed the importance that research, science, technology and innovation must go hand in hand to effectively address healthcare challenges. Also Dr. Lattapipat highlighted the importance of research institutions and educational institutions working together to provide real value to society.

Harbinger of successful innovations

The concept of “early health technology assessment” (early HTA) was introduced within this framework to better promote the development of innovations. The discussion also highlighted early deficiencies in medical innovation development in Thailand. These measures are crucial to ensure that the developed products are successful on the market. The collaboration is intended to reduce risks and costs in innovation development while at the same time facilitating the market launch of new technologies. Additionally, the NHSO will collect and analyze data to improve access to healthcare services.

International dimension

What is interesting is that Thailand is working to promote research and innovation not only nationally but also internationally. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from Germany has been participating in the multilateral funding announcements of the “Southeast Asia – Europe Joint Funding Scheme” since 2017. The aim is to strengthen collaboration between German and Thai researchers. The project “Energy efficiency of electrochemical coating processes and systems (Ecoplate)” is currently being funded, with a joint research station being set up in Bangkok. This international cooperation shows that health research and the development of technologies go beyond national borders.

The thematic focuses of the funded projects are diverse and range from health research to nutrition to environmental issues. This integrated approach is essential for developing sustainable solutions that benefit both society and the economy.

Overall, it can be said that today's developments in Bangkok represent a positive step towards a sustainable and innovative society that is well equipped to meet the challenges in the health sector.
