Food rescue in Thailand: SOS celebrates 15.3 million kilos of success!
A celebratory evening filled with inspiring stories of food rescue was held on October 16, 2025 at SAMA Garden, BITEC Bangna. On this special day, the Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Thailand Foundation celebrated its success and commitment to fighting food waste. The “SOS Thailand Awards 2025” event was not only an occasion for celebration, but also a platform for exchanging ideas to improve food safety in Thailand, where the foundation has been active since 2016 and has now established itself as a pioneer in the food rescue movement. Loud mgronline SOS Thailand has saved more than 15.3 million kilograms of food over the last nearly decade, providing an impressive 64 million meals to over 5,100 communities.
The event honored over 47 organizations for their valuable contribution to food rescue. Awards were presented in three different categories: The **Best Sustaining Partner Awards** went to 14 outstanding organizations such as AEON (Thailand) and Starbucks Thailand. The **Good Sustaining Partner Awards** were presented to 25 organizations including the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Hilton. Ultimately, 8 organizations received the **Sustaining Partner Award**, including numerous local community networks and schools.
A look into the future
A particularly interesting part of the event was the Voices for Change panel, where leaders spoke about the future of the food system in Thailand. Dr. Patmaporn Prachumrat from the National Science and Technology Development Agency presented the establishment of a food bank in Thailand to further improve the existing food rescue infrastructure.
Ultimately, SOS Thailand is not just about saving food, but also about raising awareness of the challenges associated with it. Founding initiator Bo H. Holmgreen recognized the enormous food waste in hotels and at events during his time at Transoft International. These observations led him to found SOS Thailand, with the aim of rescuing surplus, high-quality food from the catering and retail sectors and distributing it to communities in need, such as scholarsofsustenance.org can be read.
Together against food waste
The event also featured networking activities aimed at fostering future collaborations. SOS Thailand plans to further increase the number of food rescue operations through local volunteers. This puts the organization on an excellent path to continue fighting hunger and food waste and to be a sustainable part of the food system in Thailand.
How the situation surrounding the issue of food rescue will develop remains exciting. But the foundation's clear goals and tireless commitment are a true sign that a lot is possible in Thailand if we work together.
