Bangkok Deputy Governor Visanu Trapsomphol has announced that fares for the green subway line extension will increase onNovember 1, 2025will rise. This adjustment affects several new route sections: Mo Chit-Kukot, Bang Chak-Samut Prakan and Pho Nimith-Bang Wa. Currently, initial reactions to the change with a fixed fare of 15 baht are mixed, and many passengers may be wondering how this will affect their daily commute.

The changes bring in new pricing model with it, which is based on the distance traveled. In the future, prices start at 17 baht and can increase to a maximum of 45 baht depending on the route. Passengers traveling between the new and existing concession areas should be particularly careful - here the maximum price will be increased from the previous 62 baht to 65 baht. This adjustment is expected to help reduce the annual operating losses of over 6 billion baht caused by the previous fixed prices.

Price adjustments for different groups of people

In order to make the new tariffs more bearable for citizens, appropriate Discounts introduced: Children and students up to the age of 23 receive a 30% discount, while seniors aged 60 and over can even save 50%. It is clear that the main burden lies on the passengers who exclusively use the new routes. Their prices will increase by 2 to 30 baht, while users of existing routes will not have to fear any changes.

Total operating expenses are approximately 9.012 billion baht per year, while revenue from the expansion is estimated at approximately 2.4 billion baht. The Bangkok city government has stressed that it will make every effort to introduce the new prices carefully so as not to impose an undue burden on citizens.
