Sustainability in focus: Bangkok University presents art venue Dib!

Something is happening in the field of art and architecture in Bangkok! On December 8, 2025, the Faculty of Architecture at Bangkok University hosted the exciting event “The Shape of Tomorrow: Bangkok Art & Architecture”. The focus here was on the exchange of knowledge and experiences between academics and experts, and the topic of sustainability was not neglected. How mgronline reports, special attention was paid to sustainable design and the adaptive reuse of buildings.

The newly created “Dib Bangkok” project plays a central role in the discussion. This contemporary art space aims to provide a platform for artists and art lovers to showcase their works and be inspired. Bangkok University President Phurat Ostatnukharak sees Dib Bangkok as having great potential for the exhibition and dissemination of art knowledge. This innovative approach could make a real difference to the city's arts scene.

A place for art and knowledge

As part of the event, there was also a lively discussion on the topic of “Adaptive Reuse & Sustainability Design”. The two design experts Kulapat Yantrasast, Principal of WHY Architecture, and Pichai Wongwiseswan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, had a lot to say. Not only are they the designers of Dib Bangkok, but they also emphasized that the existing structure will be adapted to the community and surroundings. This approach not only strengthens the architecture, but also promotes a sense of community.

Dr. Miwako Tezuka, director of Dib Bangkok, highlighted the relevance of structure and exhibition space in museums. The entire project aims to increase the academic reputation of the faculty and create networks between architects, students and business. This fits perfectly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, which deals with quality education, and SDG 9, which focuses on industry, innovation and infrastructure.

Together into the future

But that's not all! In addition to this event, the event “Creative Spark 2025: Leading Local Content Future with Global Vision” also took place, also organized by Bangkok University. Here you could find out about the promotion of Thai content on an international level. Through Dib Bangkok's cooperation with the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, arts management courses aimed at developing the Thai arts sector are also offered, he said sdgs.bu.ac.th.

Bangkok University has been actively committed to sustainability since 2020 and is pursuing the 17 Sustainability Goals. The introduction of new skills in virtual production is intended to help strengthen the Thai film industry and facilitate access to international career opportunities through partnerships such as with the Department of Skill Development. This is all part of the “Co-Create the Future” initiative. This is another significant step towards a more sustainable future, which will also be visible at the upcoming Thai Food Festival in Bhutan.

Overall, it shows that there is a breath of fresh air blowing in Bangkok that combines art and architecture and does not lose sight of the focus on sustainability. It remains to be seen how these projects will develop, but the beginning seems promising!
