Samart conquers the airspace: increasing profits in Cambodia despite conflicts!
There is currently a lot of talk in Bangkok about the political tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, but the private company Samart Corporation remains largely unaffected by the conflicts. How The Standard Reported, Samart Corporation, which provides air traffic management in Cambodia, has not felt any significant impact on its business. In fact, its subsidiary, Samart Aviation Solutions (SAV), is the only provider of such services in Cambodia.
The economic situation in Cambodia, which is characterized by its strong dependence on China, is leading to tensions, but Samart Corporation believes it is well positioned. Cambodia contributes about 20 to 25 percent of Samart's total sales. The decline in overflights, which was around 20 percent at the beginning of the conflict, was reduced to 10-15 percent due to favorable weather conditions and a gradual recovery in air traffic.
Growth forecasts despite conflict
In 2025, SAV is targeting profit growth of 15 percent, although political unrest continues. The first nine months of 2025 saw an increase in flight operations of around 20 percent, mainly due to the opening of a new airport in Cambodia, such as the Bangkok Post reported.
Samart's strategy also includes expanding SAV through two major projects, including an air navigation project worth about 1.1 billion baht and a foreign object removal project at Suvarnabhumi Airport, which is expected to cost about 1.2 billion baht. Both projects are intended to help increase revenue from 2026. Samart's order book is also promising at 18 billion baht.
Border conflicts and economic impacts
Despite the positive developments at Samart, the political background does not go unmentioned. It is shown that the border disputes between Thailand and Cambodia remain a sensitive issue. A planned border committee meeting could try to ease tensions, but the Süddeutsche Zeitung points out that the situation remains tense, with Thai and Cambodian troops near the border.
Cambodia has emerged as a land of opportunity in recent years, but current border conflicts and economic weakness reflect the challenges the country faces. The picture is further complicated by historical land claims and references to landmines in the border areas dating back to the Vietnam War era.
In the aviation industry, Samart remains a bright spot in this tense situation. The positive development of the statutes in relation to air traffic shows that there are opportunities for growth and expansion despite all adverse circumstances. As companies grapple with the challenges posed by political conflicts, Samart's plans to expand air traffic management to neighboring countries such as Laos appear to be an interesting step in the industry.
