New milestone: M82 motorway opening soon - safety measures in place!
The Thai transport infrastructure is getting a breath of fresh air: The Ministry of Transport, together with the Engineers Association of Thailand (VST), has reviewed the preparations for the new M82 motorway between Bang Khun Thian and Ekachai. An exciting event is coming: test use of the highway is scheduled for tomorrow, October 22, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Anyone traveling in the area should be prepared for new routes, because this 8.3 kilometer long route has already been completed and can be used free of charge from tomorrow, initially with a speed limit of 80 km/h for cars and 65 km/h for trucks and buses today.line.me reported.
Final preparations were made on October 20, 2025 during a joint inspection of the project. Safety measures such as the installation of no-motorcycle signs and the installation of lighting systems were adopted to ensure the safety of residents and drivers. The Ministry of Transport also plans to work closely with the traffic police to enforce traffic rules, especially when it comes to speed checks.
Public relations and security
Information measures are being carried out to inform the public about the new regulations. This includes the creation of short clips that explain the entrances and exits and are distributed via radio and online platforms. The recommendations to install clear information signs at entrances and exits are intended to help all road users find their way around better.
The safety ratings should not be underestimated. The Engineering Association's structural and safety expert has given the green light for the stability and safety of the M82 motorway. The test results of the road signs and review of safety aspects at critical traffic junctions like Panta Hin Narsingh point, km 16 have also received positive feedback.
Transport projects in Bangkok
Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn visited the construction sites on Rama 2 Road on October 15, 2025. These projects are of great importance - including the new M82 motorway, which leads to Ban Phaew. The construction of this 24.3-kilometer stretch will be carried out by the Department of Road Construction (DPT), while simultaneously creating an expressway from Rama 3 to Dao Khanong.
Currently, traffic volumes on Rama 2 Road have reached an impressive 250,000 vehicles per day. The section from Ekkachai to Ban Phaew already has a progress of 88.19%. All transport projects will certainly be treated as a top priority; New safety measures are to be introduced from fiscal year 2026 to further minimize the risk of accidents.
Road safety in focus
Road safety in Thailand remains under pressure. Despite some progress, the road traffic mortality rate remains worrying. There were an estimated 18,000 traffic deaths in Thailand in 2021, accounting for 3.5% of all deaths in the country (according to asiantransportobservatory.org ). To counteract this, it is crucial that both the government and the public pay greater attention to safety issues and strictly adhere to speed limits.
The Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 initiative aims to reduce road deaths by half by 2030, but recent statistics show that the Asia Pacific region is struggling to achieve this goal. It is important not only to implement the measures taken, but also to check and adapt them in order to improve road safety.
The M82 motorway could be a decisive step in the right direction, as a well-developed road network can help to significantly increase road safety.
