Thailand prepares for COP30: big plans for climate protection!
Thailand is ready to take an active role in the global fight against climate change. This was announced on November 5, 2025 by Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, during a presentation on the country's preparations for the upcoming 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil. This will take place from November 10th to 21st, 2025 and has the motto “Global Mutirão – The power of the global community to combat climate change”.
In preparation for this important conference, Ms. Pattharanan Thongpraphan was appointed as head of the Thai delegation. Thailand aims to focus on five key issues: the delivery of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), the establishment of indicators for adaptation to climate impacts, progress on the environmental financing guide, the management of the Loss and Damage Fund, and the tenth anniversary of the Paris Agreement, which is considered a turning point for global climate cooperation.
Preparations for COP30
On September 22, 2025, a UNFCCC COP 30 Capacity Building Workshop was held in Bangkok, organized by the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE) and the Climate, Coastal, and Marine Biodiversity (CCMB) project under GIZ Thailand. The aim of the workshop was to strengthen Thailand's readiness for COP30 and optimize negotiation strategies. Pavich Kesavawong, Deputy Director-General of the DCCE, opened the event and emphasized the importance of cooperation among Thai negotiators.
The workshop covered a variety of topics, including linking climate change to other relevant issues and improving understanding of national priorities. Participants from energy, industry, waste, agriculture, forestry and climate sectors discussed ways to increase Thailand's contribution to more ambitious global climate action. Strategies to ensure access to international climate finance were also discussed.
Thailand's vision for climate protection
The Thailand Pavilion, presented at COP30 under the “5C” concept, covers aspects such as climate policy for carbon neutrality, practical measures at community and industry levels, and the development of financing mechanisms to support the green transition. A dedicated Technology and Innovation Zone will showcase modern technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and store carbon.
Over 30 discussion forums and activities in the pavilion will address important topics such as environmental finance, climate adaptation and social equality. Thailand sees COP30 as a valuable opportunity to demonstrate its own proactive role in global cooperation for a sustainable world.
But what does all of this mean for us? Climate change is not just a buzzword – it affects us all. The current climate crisis, triggered by man-made factors, underscores the urgency of taking action. How we collectively address the challenges of climate change will be critical to the well-being of future generations. COP30 could be the turning point the global community needs.
