Thailand's Prime Minister calls for fight against crime and economic opportunities!
On November 5, 2025, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's speech, themed "Thailand's Next Frontier: A National Economic Vision", was delivered at the Paragon Hall in Siam Paragon. Anutin stressed the need to position Thailand as a hub for legitimate business and free the country from its current perception as a hub of illegal activities. He pointed out Thailand's strategically central location in Southeast Asia, which makes the country attractive for illegal trade. The Thai government plans to tighten laws to combat crime, drug trafficking and human trafficking to improve the economic environment. He announced that a major fraudster's citizenship had been revoked in just three weeks and that the number of measures to support the police and other authorities would be increased.
“The government must not be afraid of criminal influences,” Anutin said, while further underlining the need for a stable and secure environment for investment and economic growth. Amid these efforts, it is also reported that allegations have been made against former Finance Undersecretary Vorapak Thanyawong, who voluntarily resigned from his post. However, Anutin assured that it was not in the government's interest to attack political rivals through legal measures.
Stability and peace as cornerstones
Another important point Anutin raised was the recently signed peacekeeping agreement with Cambodia. This initiative has not only eased geopolitical tensions in the border area, but is also intended to promote economic relations between the two neighboring countries.
“Stability and peace are the cornerstones of our economic success and the well-being of our citizens,” said the Prime Minister. He also spoke about the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on rare earths, which is intended to secure Thailand's access to these valuable raw materials without making any concessions. Anutin agreed that Thais must be actively involved in value creation and that working in partnership with international players is essential to strengthen the economy.
Trade relations and national security
“The open borders are crucial for our trade network,” Anutin further emphasized. Given the geopolitical importance of Thailand, which borders Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia and has around 66 million people, the overall economic forecast reads positively. The second largest economy in the region and 23rd in the world by purchasing power parity relies heavily on the industrial, agricultural and tourism sectors.
Thailand is well on its way to meeting these challenges and opportunities, with the Prime Minister underlining the government's responsibility to protect citizens' interests and ensure national security. These measures are intended to further strengthen Thailand not only as a tourism destination, but also as a stable business location in international trade.
With a rich cultural diversity deeply rooted in Buddhist tradition and indigenous roots, Thailand has much to offer. The balance between tradition and modern economic progress could turn out to be the key to more sustainable growth. The government's efforts to both increase security and improve economic conditions are directly related to creating a better living environment for all Thais.
