Revolution in cinema: Opening of the first Dolby Vision + Atmos in Thailand!
Major Cineplex Group brings a breath of fresh air to Thai cinema and sets new standards with the opening of the first Dolby Vision + Atmos cinema in Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia. On December 17, 2025, the Esplanade Cineplex Ratchada, Cinema 4, will open its doors. There's a lot of excitement surrounding the premiere as the blockbuster "AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH" is the first film to be shown in this new setting. Plewseengern reports that this represents a significant improvement to the cinema experience.
But what makes the new cinema so special? The combination of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos takes the film experience to a whole new level. Dolby Vision offers stunning picture quality with twice the brightness of traditional cinemas. Blacks are 230 times deeper, while contrast boasts an impressive 1,000,000:1 ratio. In addition, image sharpness is increased by 500 times and the color space is expanded by 22%. This is all done through Dolby Wide Color Gamut 1.0 and support for High Frame Rate (HFR) up to 120 fps for 2K and 48 fps for 4K.
Sound that captivates
But it's not just the images that are groundbreaking. Dolby Atmos ensures a three-dimensional sound experience that no viewer should miss. With the ability to control over 128 sound sources and 64 independent speakers, the system creates an immersive listening experience that draws viewers right into the action. A 7.1 sound system with 32 speakers will be installed in the new Esplanade Ratchada cinema, which will be positioned above the audience and thus provide a realistic sound image. Major Cineplex highlights that this is the next step in the evolution of the cinema experience.
Dolby Atmos' origins date back to 2012, when the technology premiered at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles. A lot has happened since then: by April 2023, over 7,800 cinemas in 105 countries already supported Dolby Atmos. This technology has found its way not only into movie theaters, but also into the world of home theaters, where it is now widely used. Wikipedia provides information about how versatile and customizable Dolby Atmos is.
The countdown is running
The anticipation for the opening is great and pre-sales for “AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH” start on December 1, 2025 via the Major Cineplex app. Major Cineplex continually invests in innovative technologies to differentiate itself from competitors and improve the cinema experience for film fans. Anyone who has the opportunity to experience this new standard in the cinema should mark the date in red on their calendar!
