New horror film Stigmatized Properties” now on Prime Video!

Horror lovers in Thailand can now look forward to an exciting new release! Prime Video is premiering the latest film from Shota Watanabe, member of the popular J-pop group Snow Man, titled “Stigmatized Properties: Possession.” The film, a work by renowned director Hideo Nakata, is the sequel to the 2020 film “Stigmatized Properties” and brings a breath of fresh air to the genre.

“Stigmatized Properties: Possession” tells the gripping story of Matsubara Tanishi, a YouTuber who has made it his mission to produce content and prove the existence of ghosts in so-called “stigmatized” homes, i.e. those where deaths have occurred. The main character, Yahiro Kuwata, portrayed by Shota Watanabe, has just pursued his dream of moving to Tokyo to gain a foothold as a talent. A smart move! Because by exploring these spooky properties, which he can rent cheaply, he not only gets to know the dark side of life, but also experiences scary events.

A look behind the scenes

The idea of living in apartments with a “terrible history” not only reflects a cultural trend in Japan, but also throws light on the professions associated with such properties. Among other things, there are real estate agents and content producers who specialize in these special apartments. This shows that there is a growing market for supernatural stories that are of interest to both employees and viewers.

Kuwata receives a business card from real estate agent Fujiyoshi (played by Kotaro Yoshida) from his former boss, who advises him to draw his content from stigmatized properties. That sounds like an attractive offer - and as if that wasn't enough, Kuwata also meets the charming Karin (played by Miku Hatta) during a commercial shoot. But as he pursues his dream, he feels the dark side of his new life first hand.

Past meets present

A notable connection to the first film “Stigmatized Properties” is that the protagonists are also confronted with psychological phenomena. The prequel is about Yamame, a comedian from Osaka who lives in stigmatized real estate to boost his career. The film offers a deep insight into the psychological aspects associated with such experiences and captivates viewers through the portrayal of the characters and their reactions to the supernatural occurrences.

With “Stigmatized Properties” and now also with its sequel, Hideo Nakata has developed a feel for the spooky that continues to captivate viewers. The Japanese horror genre has evolved over the years and is still popular, as are other classics like “Ringu” and the crossover film “Sadako vs. Kayako,” which combines elements of “The Ring” and “The Grudge.”

“Stigmatized Properties: Possession” is now available with Thai subtitles on Prime Video. If you're interested in a scary journey through the unknown, you should definitely take a look!
