Bangkok celebrates River Festival 2025: A festival of lights and tradition!

At this wonderful time of year, when Bangkok's nights are lit up with lights and the coolness of November makes itself felt, the River Festival 2025 is just around the corner. From November 3rd to 5th, Thai Beverage Public Company Limited is organizing this festive highlight under the theme “Colorful Full Moon”. The festival takes place at 11 landmark locations along the Chao Phraya River, including major temples and museums, and even includes the Prem Prachakorn Canal as well as the Siam Museum and Lamphun Province. As Bangkokbiznews reports, the festival is organized with the support of numerous partners such as the Ministry of Culture and the Bangkok Metropolitan Municipality.

What makes this festival so special? There is a special connection to the traditional Loy Krathong Festival, where the Thais pay respect to the water goddess Pra Mae Khongkha and pray for luck and prosperity. One way this happens is by floating krathongs, small, decorative boats woven from banana leaves and often decorated with flowers and candles. Highlightstravel further explains that Loy Krathong is a significant festival in the Thai calendar and will be celebrated on November 6th this year.

Cultural highlights and activities

The River Festival offers a diverse program of impressive activities to promote Thai culture. Environmental protection is emphasized by encouraging visitors to use eco-friendly krathongs. Highlights include light installations at temples and events that engage the local community. The free speedboat service on the Chao Phraya River during the festival makes it easy to explore the various festivities. There will also be other events in Lamphun on November 4th and 5th that are associated with traditional celebrations.

On the same weekend, a special event entitled “Tradition and Culture by the Water – Loy Krathong 2025” will be held at the Navy Auditorium in Bangkok. Couples, families and tourists come together here to enjoy the view of the illuminated Grand Palace with delicious food in a beer garden from 5 p.m. on November 4th. On November 5th there will be a musical boat trip with the marine band and an atmospheric light display on the Chao Phraya. The entry price starts at 999 baht and offers a great opportunity for a relaxing time. Further information is available by calling Marine Auditorium, including reservation details.

Arrival and tips

Getting to the various events is easy. Whether by car via the Rama 4 highway, by MRT to Sanam Chai station or by Chao Phraya express boat from Sathorn Pier - the options are diverse and well signposted. A little tip for everyone celebrating: wear light-colored clothing for the photos and don't forget a camera or smartphone. And remember to use eco-friendly krathongs to preserve the beauty of the tradition.

The festive days surrounding the Loy Krathong Festival promise an unforgettable experience. It is time for community, culture and tradition to unite and celebrate the light of hope and prosperity. Don't forget to prepare yourself for the impressive light art installations and the many cultural performances that bring it all to life!
